My Brother Sam is Dead
Tim's father and brother, Sam, both have different views when it comes to the war. Tim's father is on the British side and believes that the colonists should stay true to England and not go to war. Sam believes that the American's should be free of British rule and that they need to fight for that freedom. If you were alive during this time, which side would you be on and why? Please use a quote from the story and your answer should be at least 4 sentences long.

If I was alive during that time i would be on the arerican side because everyone deserves the right to be on there on if they want to. I would want my own laws, my own taxes, and i would want my life to be mine not a kings. If I was ruled by a king I would want to be free and alive not listoning to a anoyining king." Free? Free to do what mock your king, fater gose on."
ReplyDeleteI would be on the American's side! They should be free. Tim's father said "Is it worth war to save a few pence in takses?" I bet some people didn't have a few pence to pay those taxes! Would you want to lose your home or just live in it? And Sam was right nobody wants to fight they just want to be free!
ReplyDeleteI would most likely be on the american side if I were alive then. I would be on that side because I don't think it's fair for one person to own another. I feel that we should be free, not be under control, and have our own goverment. "Sir,it's worth dying to be free," said Sam in the book.
ReplyDeleteI think i would be on Americas side. I think we should be free to do what we want. I wouldn't want to be told what to do by a different country miles away from us. I wouldn't want to pay taxes to them either. "Why should theyget rich off our taxes in England?"
ReplyDeleteI would be on the Americans because there fighting for freedom. I wonder why the Brithish do not let them free.Allthey have to do is let the people who won't to be free, free, instead of making war." If they won't ley us be free, we have to fight.
ReplyDeleteI wouldbe on the American side because they should be free.I think they should have there own goverment. And have a law that says no more fighting and no more wars and also have freedom for everyone."We've beaten the brittish in Massachusetts." I also think that people should be n=called by there real name and not "Lobsterbacks"or "Patroits".
ReplyDeleteIn would be on the American side. I would be on the american side because i would not want to pay taxes to the British. Also, the are 3000 miles away. I don't think it is fair to the peolpe to pay other countrys too. " The damn Lobsterbacks marched out of Bostonyesterday. They were looking for Mr. Adams and Mr. Handcock and they marched up to Lexington."
ReplyDeleteIf I was alive during that time , I would be on the american side because I don't think that it is fair for kings and queens to make you pay taxes. I think we should not have to pay any taxes at all. Even if we had to, I would at least want to know what they would do with that money. "So anyway, some men were killed, I don;t know how many , and then the British went on up to someplace called Concord looking for the ammunition stores there, but they didn't find very much and turned around and started back to Boston. That was when the Minutemen really peppered them; they chased them all the way back home."
ReplyDeleteIf it were my choice, I wouldn't be on anybody's side. Sure, I'd like to have freedom, but, not finding any point in violence, I don't think fighting is right. It says in the book, "There's going to be war. Which side are you on?" I couln't answer.Sam made it seem that he was right and Father was wrong; but I didn't seehow I could go against Father. I didn't say anything." That's my answer. But I'll let you in on a little secret. You want my opinion of this book? Alright, here it is: I EXTREMELY(If I could underline the word, I would) dislike the book. I just think that it's violent and- well, you get the point, don't you? Well, that't a wrap, folks.
ReplyDeleteI would be on the americans side because we could be able to govern our selfs not people govern for us that are 3000 miles away "why should they get rich off our taxes in england if they're 3000 miles away how can they make laws for us they have no idea of how things are here." and i would like to be free.
ReplyDeleteI would have been on the Americans' side because people should be free to do what they want. Also because we should not have to listen to people that live so far away. Plus the King doesn't know any thing about where we live. Like in the story Sam says," They are 3,000 miles away how can they make laws for us?"
ReplyDeleteIf I were there at that time I would be on colonists side but I wouldn't sovle it in war.A nd it would of been better if the british should of not rasie the taxes. The colonist shold of try to sovle this without war becuase it was a wars for all poeple freedom so the british migth of killed poeple that weren't even in the war "they were looking for mr adams."
ReplyDeleteI think that sam is rite because the americans deserve to be free. I also agree with father because I think they shouldent start a war over it."you are not going to weathersfeild and you are going to ytake off that uniform right now, if you have to go to church tomarrow naked." "Father i am not anEnglishman, I am an american, and I will fight to keep my contry free."
ReplyDeleteI would be on the Americans side. The reason is that it is unfair that a king millions of miles away can rule them.I also think if thay fight and win thay diserve the right to be free."Well its hard to tell it orderly, Father.
ReplyDeletei would go on his side becuase england is 3000 miles away and that doesnt give them the right to just rule someone and get all their money.i would also be on their side becouse i would want to be free.i wont want to get pour so they can get richer ."sir its worth dying to be free .""if thay wontwont let us be free ,we have to fight.why should they get rich off our taxes in england?they're 3000 miles away ,how can they make laws for us? they have no idea how things are here."
ReplyDeleteI would be on both sides. It's not fair to the americans that just because there were born somewhere eltse there treated differently than others. But I would have to stand true to my leader.Fihghting does not solve any thing though."Oh God, Sam fight? Is it worth war to save a few taxes?"
ReplyDeleteIf I were alive durring this rough time I would be on the American side because the British are so far away and think that they have complete control over us. My opinion would be that the British doesn't have the right to have control of the country because we shouldn't be told what to do from them if we are the ones that live there and claimed the land. As for if I were in the book "My Brother Sam Is Dead", I would agree with Sam when it comes to descusions about America being an independent, free country. I can tell Sam wants America to be free by this quote on page 35 when Sam says,"You should be willing to die for your principles." My point is, I would have wanted America to be a free country.
ReplyDeleteIf i was alive at that time I would be on the British side.I would be on the British side because I think everyone should be free.I also think everyone should just live where they live and not fight over sides."I am going to fight to keep my country free."
ReplyDeleteIf I was alive I would chose to be on the American's side because people should be forced to do what ever the king says. If they want to move so they don't have to pay the extra taxes, they should be allowed to. Also, I think I would want to be free of English customs and not have to do them if I don't believe they are right. Here is a quote from the tory to upport my answer, "What worried me was that maybe God would punish Sam by getting him bayonetted by a lobterback."
ReplyDeleteI would be on the British side because I wouldn't want to start a war.I also would want to be on the British side because I wouldn't want to lose family members. I would want to stay true to my King to. "By that I suppose you mean the soldiers of your king."
ReplyDeleteI will be on the amiricans side because. He will help. His dad with all the stuff he nedes he will be rilly. Happy for him espechaly for. The amiracans to.''
ReplyDeleteI would be on the american side because I agree with sam that americans should be free. The americans have a right to have freedom. But I dont think that sam and his dad should be fighting because it is not good for the family to hear them fight. "Oh god, sam fight? Is it worth war to save a few pence in taxes?"
ReplyDeleteI think the book is interesting, but its isen't plesent. There is a lot of arguing, fighting, and bad words.Though I agree with sam that all countreys shoud be free,it dosen't give him the right to steal the brown bess from his own father.I think a father and son shoud be able to get along beter."nobody wants to get killed,"sam said"but you should be willing to die for your principles."
ReplyDeleteIf i was a live back then i would be on the British side, because i don't like war. People dying ,people getting hurt badly, and maybe even killing your neighbor.Plus, you are basicly free but you just have to pay some Taxes." The people didn't care about freedom the just didn't want to pay the taxes.'
ReplyDeletei think i would b on the americans side.the reson i would b on the americans side is because he should b free and do what ever he wants. if he whants to 2 fight in wat he belives in he should go 2 waar and fite in wat he thinks is rright 4 him. also i think SAM iz old enough 2 make his own dessisons."Sam you shouldn't do that"
ReplyDeleteMy opinion is that in the book sam should have taken the gun because he could remember his dad and it is one of the best guns i thought tim was going over board by saying that their dad would kill sam if he took the gun."shhhh dont shout that i have the gun i hsve to have its the families anyways"
ReplyDeleteI would be on the Americans side.
ReplyDeleteI would be on the americans side because I think that it is not fair if they get rich off of our taxes. Its also not fair they make the laws."They're 3000 miles away, how can make laws for us?
I will be on the amiricans side because. He snus like mad man he would smae his brother sam.Now went he is all the time he will be save. So now i would have wanted america to be a free places.
ReplyDeleteThey all wanted to be in the army to. with with sam they were all going to. find some sords with some. outher people lick his own. nabors''
ReplyDeleteI wiil be on the american side because the british soilders go arond there neibor hood atacing people annd i think the british is going to looes because and the americans are going to win
ReplyDeleteI will be on the American side because the Tories will start hating the British and we will win the war."they're killing your neigbors,Susannaah,".
